Why Prince Edward Wears The Same Tie To The Royal Ascot Every Year

Date June 21, 2018

Prince Edward may not be one of the most famous members of the royal family, and this is why it's easy to miss a unique quirk he has had for years.

His Royal Ascot tie

Queen Elizabeth's youngest child attended the Royal Ascot a few days ago. Like most of the men at the event, he sported a classy outfit and hat. But it was his yellow tie that had people curious.

Prince Edward has been wearing this same tie, which featured jockey jackets, to the Royal Ascot since 2012. Don't believe us? Let's take a trip through the years.

His fascinating royal wedding tie

This is not the first time Prince Edward's tie has made headlines. When he attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding back in May, the royal wore a bright, cat-patterned tie.

This is in keeping with his fun tradition over the years. In fact, for his own wedding in 1999, he wore the same print, but that one had a lilac background.

Why the curious ties?

While he has never actually spoken about his love for these fancy ties, we assume all of this is a nod to Prince Edward's light-hearted personality. He seems to have a thing for entertainment and the theatrics.

For many years after he left the Marines, the prince was even involved in the entertainment industry where he worked as a production assistant for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Theatre Company.

So, the next time a big royal event comes around, we can almost guarantee you will have a smile on your face when you spot Prince Edward's tie.
