Meghan is pregnant

On October 15th, the Kensington Palace announced, via their social media platforms, that Duchess Meghan is pregnant and the couple is expecting their first child in Spring 2019.

Many congratulations followed this news as fans have been anticipating it since the couple's wedding on May 19. Now that we know another royal baby is on the way, we have questions. Granted, we may not know whether the baby is a boy or a girl until the day he/she is born, but we're a little curious as to what the child will be called.

Not Prince/Princess apparently

Prince William and Kate Middleton's children automatically get the title of Prince or Princess after they are born. But from what it sounds like, Meghan's kids will not get the same honor.

If royal succession laws are to be followed, Harry and Meghan's child will have a lesser grade title than the kids of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Royal etiquette institute, Debrett, spoke to the UK Express and explained that the couple's first child will very likely adopt one of his father's subsidiary peerage titles. Hence, the first son will be known as the Earl of Dumbarton which is one of the titles Queen Elizabeth bestowed on Harry on his wedding day.

If the child is a girl, she will likely be known as Lady Mountbatten-Windsor and subsequent sons of the couple will have the title of Lord Mountbatten-Windsor.

William Bortrick, chairman of Burke’s Peerage, also confirmed a similar theory to People. These titles are according to the rules set by King George V. Of course, Queen Elizabeth has the right to overturn the rules so that her great-grandchildren will have the Prince/Princess titles.

If that's the case, Harry's son will be known as is Royal Highness Prince (His Name) of Sussex, while his daughter will be called Her Royal Highness Princess (Her Name) of Sussex.
