Williams was fined $17,000 and the money will be deducted from her game winnings of $1.85 million dollars. But despite her loss, she still congratulated 20-year-old Naomi Osaka after the game and even appealed to the spectators to celebrate Osaka’s win.

Former World Number 1 tennis player Billie Jean King shared this tweet on September 9 and clearly, she is in support of Williams. In her tweet, King pointed out the double standards in the game of tennis.

King said men get off with even worse behavior on the court and she does not understand why Ramos penalized William. King is not alone as heads of the Women’s Tennis Association and the United States Tennis Association agree.

Speaking at a press conference after the game, Williams said she felt the umpire was unfair in his judgment. She further added that her actions on the court were her way of taking a stand against sexism in the game.

Some people still insist that Williams ruined Osaka’s victory at the U.S. Open and understandably so. Many spectators were looking forward to Williams winning the game after her sad loss at the French Open.

With King and the heads of women’s tennis involved in the Williams issue, there are indications that this matter may be the start of even more drama regarding sexism in U.S. Tennis.
