The 2016 split between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt left millions of fans heartbroken. Now, two years after, the former “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” stars are far from going their separate ways. Sources familiar with the divorce suggested an amicable solution for custody of their six children was in sway.

Other issues to be resolved included property and the child support. The children have been living with Jolie, but Pitt has visitation rights and still spends time with them.

However, recent revelations from the divorce settlement suggest that this is likely to change. On Tuesday last week, the “Maleficent” star accused Pitt of shirking his responsibilities as a father. She claims he has not paid "meaningful" child support since their split.

NBC News reported that Jolie’s lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, filed a two-page brief filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Given the informal arrangements around the payment of the children's expenses have not been regularly sustained by [Pitt] for over a year and a half, [Jolie] intends to file an RFO for the establishment of a retroactive child support order.

In response on Wednesday, Pitt stated that he lent Jolie $8million to purchase the house she currently lives in with the children. In addition, he claims he has paid up to $1.3million in bills for the kids since the split. Attorneys stated that in a counter-filing that Jolie’s claim was:

unnecessary, omits material information and is a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage.

There is no formal agreement between both stars for the upkeep of their children, but DeJean says Jolie wants Pitt to pay 50% of their upkeep moving forward. Oddly, the Jolie suit failed to explain what "meaningful" child support is. Her lawyer, however, confirms that Pitt lent Jolie the $8million and she would repay it.

Fans of the former couple continue to share opinions on the issue with many taking different sides and placing blame on one or both stars.

After the divorce announcement, both Pitt and Jolie said they were keeping their split civil for the sake of the kids. It seems clear now that any hope they had of saving their six children the pain of a custody battle is out the window.
