Julie Walters is on board

Dame Julie Walters has joined the original cast too, but she wasn’t sure whether it would be worth doing. The British actress felt like the sequel wouldn’t live up to the original hit.

My first reaction when my agent told me they were making 'Mamma Mia 2' was, 'Oh God no, it is going to be awful'. But the script was so good. I think it’s fantastic. It’s better than the first one.

The first film gained a lot of popularity in 2008. The sequel, which also stars Cher, will be out in the cinemas on July 20.

Speaking of Cher…

Cher revealed that her friendship with co-star Meryl Streep has started a long time ago.

I met her for the first time in a sushi place in Texas when we were working on Mike Nichols’s 'Silkwood'. I walked in, and she came over and hugged me and said, 'I’m so glad you’re here'. We were together all the time after that.

The singer also said she would go to Streep’s house every single day when she was in New York. We didn’t know the two have such good relationship!

Where was 'Mamma Mia 2' filmed?

The story of both movies is set at the Greek island of Kalokairi, and the first film was mainly filmed in Greece. But the sequel got a new location – the beautiful, remote Croatian island of Vis.

We can't wait to see the movie! Are you excited?
