The queen of tennis Serena Williams showed her support to a long-time friend and a new royal, Meghan Markle. She created a sweet social media post following the news about the Duchess’ new venture.

Kind words of support

Kensington Palace recently announced that the Duchess of Sussex is launching her first solo charity project, Together cookbook. Meghan wrote the foreword for the charity and narrated the video for it. She also appeared on the cover and cooked with women of a community kitchen, whose families were affected by the Grenfell Tower fire last year. The horrifying blaze took the lives of 72 people and left many more without their homes.

Williams wrote:

I used to call you Meghan (and I still do), but dear Duchess of Sussex, your first project Together a cookbook bringing women of all cultures together. I could not be more excited about it and proud of you. It’s beautiful diversity, inclusivity, coming together in grief or joy there is just so much love.

Serena didn’t stop there. She also included a link to a short clip posted by the royal family's account to her Instagram biography. The clip shares the Hubb Community Kitchen’s story, which began after the Grenfell fire, when women started cooking together as a way to connect, swap recipes, and bring joy.

Longtime friends

Meghan and Serena have been friends long before the former actress changed her status and became the Duchess. Williams was amongst the lucky A-list guests who were invited to the royal wedding in May.

After becoming the wife of Prince Harry, Meghan didn’t forget about her old friend, as she attended Wimbledon in July to watch Williams play. Despite the big changes in their lives, the two women kept their friendship tight and always show support to each other.
