Maria Shriver Opens Up About How She Managed To Raise Ambitious, Kind, And Grounded Chlildren

Maria Shriver has had a lot to go through since her infamous split from Hollywood star, Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011. The couple had been together for 25 years before getting a divorce.

As it turned out, the actor had a son with the family’s housekeeper. Following the split, Maria even turned to therapy and meditation to be able to forgive and be a better person:

I do admire people who work at their marriages, but I also admire those who chart a new way forward. And I really admire those who manage to stay friends after their marriages are over.


Luckily, the ex-spouses still manage to be friends and co-parent their four children. And when it comes to raising the kids, Maria and Arnold are on the same page.

In the recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, the media mogul asked Shriver what keeps her children grounded. And Maria’s answers can inspire every parent.

The 62-year-old revealed that she motivates her kids to be compassionate and kind. Besides, she advises that they should surround themselves only with those people who truly care about them and love them. As Maria added:

I don't expect you to make a lot of money, but I expect you to work hard as does your dad.

The journalist also wants her children to help those in need by finding a non-profit organization, a charity, or a passion that can benefit the misfortunate:

I do expect you to be kind and loving and you will always be accepted here in this home. You will always be loved here. It's non-negotiable.


Maria’s candid remarks caused different reactions among the internet folks. Many supported her in how she raises her children, while others shared their personal experiences when it comes to upbringing.
