Last two days were not the easiest ones for Roseanne Barr. First, ABC canceled her show due to the offensive tweet. Then, her colleagues and co-stars refused to support the actress amid all this scandal.
Roseanne Barr fires back at ‘Roseanne’ cast
As it was reported earlier, ABC canceled the popular show Roseanne. The cause for cancellation was Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet about Barack Obama’s former adviser, Valerie Jarett.
Barr tweeted on Monday, and the next day, ABC announced the show cancellation. The actress realized her mistake, deleted the tweet, and replaced another one with apologies.
hey guys, don't defend me, it's sweet of you 2 try, but...losing my show is 0 compared 2 being labelled a racist over one tweet-that I regret even more.— Roseanne Barr (@therealroseanne) May 30, 2018
But apparently, it was too late for the excuse. The studio announced Roseanne will not return for the next season this fall.
From Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment: "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."— Robert Iger (@RobertIger) May 29, 2018
There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.
Roseanne cast reacted on Ms. Barr’s tweet with a wave of negative comments. Wanda Sykes even said she will leave the show.
I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC.— Wanda Sykes (@iamwandasykes) May 29, 2018
This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.— sara gilbert (@THEsaragilbert) May 29, 2018
Roseanne Barr apparently didn’t expect such negative reaction from her co-stars. On Wednesday, the actress took to Twitter to express her disappointment about her colleagues who didn’t stand by her side amid the scandal. In one of her tweets, Barr wrote:
You throw me under the bus. Nice!
Wow! unreal.— Roseanne Barr (@therealroseanne) May 30, 2018
i created the platform for that inclusivity and you know https://t.co/hViHPX2ZUb. You throw me under the bus. nice!— Roseanne Barr (@therealroseanne) May 30, 2018
Barr also mentioned she is not a racist as most people think, and that her tweet was just a “stupid joke.”
I'm not a racist, I never was & I never will be. One stupid joke in a lifetime of fighting 4 civil rights 4 all minorities, against networks, studios, at the expense of my nervous system/family/wealth will NEVER b taken from me.— Roseanne Barr (@therealroseanne) May 30, 2018
Meanwhile, all Roseanne fans have to deal with the sad news about the show cancellation and say goodbye to the favorite sitcom.
