Some people think that members of the royal family live like in a fairy tale. In reality, the life of royals is full of social events, official meetings, and multiple duties to their country and its people. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, knows this firsthand.

Prince William: behind the scenes of the royal’s life

After graduation from the University of St. Andrews, William completed 44 weeks of training as an officer cadet. Then, he underwent helicopter flight training and served in the British Armed Forces till September 2013.

After his service was ended, the Duke got the position of a search-and-rescue pilot at the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Few people know, but during his work in the air ambulance, William helped save dozens of lives. But there was one story that made the most powerful impact on His Highness.

Robbie Lea and his story

Robbie Lea was a 16-year-old boy who died from drowning in May 2017. Robbie and his friends went to the lake where they used to hang out in summer.

The young men decided to swim as the weather was very hot. Robbie and his pal, Kieran, got to the island and sat for several minutes to catch their breath. When they decided to swim back, Kieran heard Robbie shouting. He saw that his friend started to drown. Kieran tried to help Robbie, but he was afraid they could go under the water together.

The rest of the group went to call rescue services. The Duke of Cambridge flew to the scene with other members of the search team. After an hour of the rescue operation, Lea was found not far from the place where he was last seen struggling in the water. Sadly, the boy couldn’t make it.

After his demise, Robbie's family launched a Facebook page to raise awareness about the water safety rules.

Prince William obviously doesn’t like to recall that sad incident. This tragic story is mentioned in the Cambridge News and Express UK, which say it made a big influence on the royal.

Today, the Duke of Cambridge is more involved in his royal duties on behalf of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Besides, he is the father of three kids and has a very busy schedule.

William continues to support numerous organizations, especially those that aim to help young people around the country. A lot of people call His Highness a person with a big heart, and we totally agree with them.
