Rod Stewart has eight children by five different mothers. For the most part, they are all doing very well for themselves. But arguably the biggest story about the singer's fatherhood is the fact that he managed to reunite with a daughter he once gave up for adoption.
Meeting Sarah Streeter
Long before Rod was a household name and influential rockstar, he was a 17-year-old vocalist who hadn't achieved his first break. In the late 60s, Rod met art student Susannah Boffey who was also 17 at the time.
The pair began a relationship that lasted about a year before Susannah found out she was pregnant. According to DailyMail, Susannah initially wanted to keep the child even though Rod felt he was too young to be a father.
Months later, baby Sarah was born. Rod urged Susannah to give the baby up for adoption which she refused. This led the couple to split up. But Susannah eventually gave the baby away after struggling to raise her on her own for several months.
Sarah spent a few years shuttling between children's homes until she was finally adopted by Gerald and Evelyn Thubron when she was five years old.
It wasn't until Sarah was 18 that Gerald and Evelyn sat her down and told her the truth about her parentage.
Sarah said it was such a major revelation that it took her a while to process it. At this time, Rod Stewart was already very famous and his songs were topping charts.
A year later father and daughter met for the first time after a tabloid newspaper arranged for Sarah to fly to Los Angeles. The reunion was understandably awkward, despite their key physical resemblance. They communicated on and off for a while since then.
However, it wasn't until Sarah's adoptive mother Evelyn passed away that the father and daughter forged a closer bond. Rod was there for Sarah during such a devastating time of her life and their relationship continued to blossom as time went on.
A different relationship
In 2018, Rod revealed, in an interview with The Australian, that he and Sarah still try to see as much of each other as possible. He, however, pointed out a way that their bond was different from that which she shared with her adoptive parents. He said that even though she called him dad and he called her his daughter, their relationship isn't "quite the same"
I didn’t take her to school. I didn’t change her nappies. I didn’t do anything with her as a child. But we’re doing our best.

Rod and Sarah's relationship may not be perfect, but we have to give the famous singer props for doing his best to connect with Sarah after so many years apart. It's clear that he values her in his life and considers her his daughter, despite the complications.
