All over the world, elderly people are the easy prey of fraudsters. Unfortunately, being a screen veteran does not make one immune to such cowardly acts.

Who is Gina Lollobrigida?

Born in 1927, this sultry actress was once described as the most beautiful woman in the world.

The Italian star started her career as in the 1950s and soon rose to the pinnacle. Afterward, she dabbled into sculpting and photojournalism in the 1970s.

Celebrated all over the world, she has won a Golden Globe, been nominated for a BAFTA and received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.

Conned by her manager!

As reported by Italian media, Andrea Piazzola, Gina's chauffeur-turned-manager has been accused of stealing the former actress' money.

In 2015, Andrea allegedly sold three of the actress' plush apartments for €2 million.

Not only that, he accessed the company's funds and bought luxury cars worth over €800,000, which included a Ferrari priced at €310,000.

He used bank accounts in his parents' names to transfer thousands of euros from the film star's fortune. The 32-year-old man is to face trial in Rome for committing the crimes between 2013 and 2018.

Michele Gentiloni, a lawyer to the screen siren, said,

"She put her faith in this man, and instead, he betrayed her and took advantage of her."

Once upon a time, Lollobrigida was estimated to be worth £16 million, but her lawyer claims that she is now worth far less.

How to stop seniors from being scammed

There are numerous ways scammers are targeting the elderly.

  • Pretending to be grandchildren who need money;
  • Posing as building contractors to carry out fake repairs;
  • Posing as Medicare representatives;
  • Telling them that they have won prizes but must pay to redeem them.

These are some of the common ones, but seniors should be encouraged to always confide in someone, preferably a loved one about anyone that is asking money.

Also, young family members should inform their elderly ones not to give credit card details or financial information over the phone or email.

Hopefully, Lollobrigida's case serves as a warning to other managers who are in the act of duping celebrities.
