Anne Murray is a Canadian country music singer — the most famous Canadian pop music artist of the 1970s, a multiple winner of the Grammy and Juneau awards, and a member of The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Anne Murray is on the lists of the best performers of country music, according to Country Music Television, and the best performers of adult contemporary music, according to Billboard magazine.
Affair and marriage
In a tell-all memoir, Anne Murray unwrapped the sleeves about her long-term affair with a married man with children, Bill Langstroth, who was a television producer. The two met while working together on CBC-TV's Singalong Jubilee.
Their romance began during a Charlottetown's journey, where Anne and Bill kissed. The country music singer herself explained that the first years of their affair were challenging:
However unhappy he might have been in his marriage, he was still married (with two young children), almost fifteen years my senior and also my boss. But I was falling in love, fast, and powerless to do anything about it.
The couple had to hide their affair from his family and public eye for years and years. However, in 1975, Bill Langstroth divorced from his wife and married Anne.
The two share two children: son William and daughter Dawn. The latter is a singer-songwriter/artist who has recorded with her mother a number of times, including the duet Let There Be Love.
Murray and Dawn were featured in a mother-daughter duet of Nobody Loves Me Like You Do on Murray's hit 2008 U.S. CD Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends.
Bill and Anne's love story ended when they went separate ways in 1997 and officially divorced the following year. The reason is unknown.
Bill Langstroth died in May 2013; Anne Murray is 73 years old and still thriving and living life on her own.
