Prince Wombat Is Here: Royals Have Funny Nicknames, And You Will Never Guess Who Is Sausage And Who Is Gan-Gan

Every person has a first name and last name, which are needed for our everyday life and are indicated in our IDs and passports. Besides, many of us have nicknames, which were given either by friends or relatives. But what about the royal family?

According to the information provided by the Home of the Royal Family website, the royal family members can be known both by the name of the royal house or by their last name, which are not always the same. Yet, at most times, they don’t use the last name at all.

Nevertheless, they have nicknames. Want to know some of them?


In an interview with the Mirror, Kate Middleton revealed she shared nickname with guinea pigs at school. Despite the fact she has the title the Duchess of Cambridge, she is already used to go by the name Squeak:

There was one called Pip and one called Squeak, because my sister was called Pippa and I was Squeak.


It was reported by the Hello! magazine that Prince Philip's pet names for the Queen include Sausage and Cabbage.

In an interview with NBC, Prince William revealed Diana called him a Wombat:

It began when I was two. I've been rightfully told because I can't remember back that far.  But when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that's the local animal.  So I just basically got called that.  Not because I look like a wombat.  Or maybe I do.
