When Lady Gaga was a child she had to face lots of cruelty towards herself from peers and had to learn about the importance of being a kind person. Other kids couldn’t accept her uniqueness, and that is why they sometimes taunted, humiliated, and excluded her.

Cynthia opened up it was very heartbreaking for her, as a mother, to watch her daughter’s emotional sufferings. Such peers' behavior shook her confidence and caused her to question her self-worth.

She also claimed there are a lot of other children who face similar difficulties, which impact their emotional health and well-being. There are lots of cases of depression, anxiety, and isolation. Together with daughter, she tries to change the situation for better, and that is why they created Born This Way Foundation.

How to make your children feel good about themselves?

But how can we change the situation and improve our children’s self-esteem? According to the Yes Safe Choices, here are some recommendations we can follow:

  • Be respectful;
  • Accept your children the way they are;
  • Put an emphasis on their strengths;
  • Be empathetic;
  • Accept mistakes as a new experience;
  • Give them the possibility to make decisions.
