There are many American actors who can speak in British accent, including Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Renée Zellweger, and many others. What is the real reason for it?

For Americans, British accent always sounds more intelligent. It conjures stereotypes of high IQ and competence, while Brooklyn and Southern accents get lower ratings on intelligence.

According to the research conducted by the University of Chicago, northern accents is “smarter”, and southern accents is “nicer.”
