Two years after their very public separation and just a few months after Angelina Jolie switched up her legal strategy to protect her kids, a child custody agreement has finally been reached.
Bitter separation and custody battles
Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016 amid claims that he had been physically violent with one of their kids. This was two years after they formally got married and almost a decade after they got together.
Brad later admitted that his drinking had played a part in their separation while Jolie fought to get sole physical custody of the kids.
An agreement has finally been reached
Although she was willing to share legal custody of the kids with Brad, he demanded to have access to them. The couple has been going at each other in court for two years dragging their children in between.
But, Jolie's lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, has now confirmed to Reuters that a settlement has been reached.
DeJean declined from disclosing the details of the settlement but said:
The agreement, which is based on the recommendations of the child custody evaluator, eliminates the need for a trial. The filing and details of the agreement are confidential to protect the best interests of the children.
In the past. Jolie had accused her ex-husband of not paying any meaningful child support in almost 18 months. A claim Brad Pitt has strongly denied through his reps. He stated that he had met all his commitments.
With this settlement, hopefully, the couple will focus on protecting the children going forward.
