A life-changing encounter with Elvis Presley

The actress and horror hostess used to be a showgirl in the late ’60s. She was 17 and doing shows in Las Vegas, when Elvis came to see one of the shows she was in, she recalled in an interview with HuffPost.

The rock-and-roll legend couldn’t have much fun in public places, so he invited Cassandra and all of the other dancers to his hotel room, which was “the entire top floor of the International Hotel.”

The singer had a thing for precocious teen girls, Cassandra recalled (Priscilla was only 14 when she and Elvis first met). As Cassandra was the youngest girl in the room, Elvis immediately noticed her. They started talking and things got heated. Elvis was going through a divorce with Priscilla at the time, but he never let himself go further than kissing (as Cassandra was only 17 back then).

The kissing wasn't the most exciting part of hanging out with Elvis for the young Cassandra. The most memorable and meaningful part was the advice Elvis gave the future actress. Cassandra recalled him telling her:

Let me tell you, Vegas is no place for a young girl like you. You need to get the hell out of here. You do not want to stay here and be like all these other girls and end up in your 30s and doing god knows what or just working at the blackjack table.

As part of the fun that night also included some singing, Elvis noticed Cassandra’s talent and said to her, she recalled:

You just sang with me and you’ve got a really nice voice. You should get voice lessons and go into singing. When you’re 24 or 25, you’re going to be too old to dance. You need to start thinking about a different career path if you want to stay in show business.

Cassandra described his words as “the best advice [she’s] ever gotten.” Although she didn’t become a professional singer, Elvis’ words may have steered her career in a different direction.

Life after meeting Elvis

That conversation with Elvis wasn’t anything more than a one-time encounter. Cassandra later started a career in TV and married her personal manager, Mark Pierson, in 1981.

The two had a daughter, Sadie, in 1994, and divorced nine years later.

It’s interesting how Cassandra and Priscilla’s relationships are intertwined. In 2008, Cassandra admitted she had a brief fling with Tom Jones, who is Priscilla’s friend. The legendary crooner and Priscilla have been rumored to be secretly dating, but both denied the rumors.

Cassandra has made a good career, although it was built around one character. But it looks like she heeded Elvis’ advice and it helped her!
