'Everybody Loves Raymond' Ray Romano Bares His Soul About Wife’s Cancer Battle: “I Broke Down”

Ray and Anna Romano celebrated 30 years of their happy marriage in 2017. The two met in 1982 in New York where they were working together. The rumor has it, Romano asked two of his co-workers out and Anna was the one who agreed.

The couple tied the knot in 1987 and has been living in perfect harmony ever since. However, the two had to face a very difficult battle.

In February 2010, Anna was diagnosed with a terrible disease but the couple went through all the ups and downs together.

The devastating battle

When Anna found out that she had stage one breast cancer, she couldn’t believe that something like that could happen to her.

Luckily, the disease was caught on its early stage but the treatment was still pretty grueling. Romano had to go through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.

Ray recalls his first reaction when he found out that his wife had cancer:

I went to my office and called [my manager]. When I had to say, “Anna has breast cancer” for the first time, it was emotional. I broke down.

But Anna wasn’t alone in her battle, because the Romano family was fighting with her. The couple’s four kids showed immense love and support, helping in every way they can.

After a few years of complete “nightmare”, Ray and Anna emerged even stronger than they ever were before as a couple.
