The legendary actor’s talent shined in many iconic roles, including Professor Snape in Harry Potter and the villain from Die Hard. But his friends and colleagues will remember him as a remarkably kind human being who once helped to make one extremely sick child’s dream come to reality.

What did Alan do?

One of the most wonderful stories shared about Rickman came from the producer of three of the Harry Potter films, Paula DuPré Pesmen. Paula organized set visits for extremely sick children and she shared how the legendary actor made the day for one of them.

A little boy named Jay was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. He was extremely excited to visit the set of his favorite film but his biggest desire was to be in it, not just visit the set. Unfortunately, Pesmen said to him that it’s not permitted.

But then something magical happened. Alan Rickman came over and had a chat with Jay, who mentioned to the actor his wish. Paula remembers Rickman’s reaction:

Alan looked at me, and he kind of went into his Snape-mode in costume, and said, ‘Why isn’t this child in the film?’

She continued by revealing that the little boy did get in the shot thanks to Rickman. She said:

Everyone had a good laugh, and Alan took him by the hand and put him into the crowd of kids as they were panning across. The back of him is actually in a shot.

The kindest man

Another British acting legend Kate Winslet also shared sweet memories about Alan, saying that he was incredibly kind and generous. She revealed that he would always find a way to pay for everyone's supper.

Winslet said:

Whenever Al would go out to supper and anyone else would try and pay, he would somehow have phoned ahead or slipped his credit card ahead of the meal so no one even got a look at the check. He'd just say, 'I've got two words for you: Harry Potter.'

This is the kind of man Rickman was and this is how he will always be remembered by his colleagues.
