Katharine and David first met on American Idol. She was a contestant, and he served as a mentor to the finalists. But their first debut as a couple happened only at 2018 Met Gala.
Soon after the engagement, news has been released to the public, people’s opinion split into two opposite sides – those who support the couple, and those who criticize their relationships due to the age difference.

thank you for coming to my TED talk.
One of the biggest supporters of Foster and McPhee’s engagement is David’s daughter, Amy Foster.
44-year-old Amy told US Weekly she is very close to her father’s fiancée.
Kath is amazing. I really like her. She’s amazing, and funny, fun, smart, elegant, timeless, beautiful, talented.
There was an alert this morning and it was oddly surreal to see... I am so thrilled for my Dad and Kat. They are perfect for each other. Truly. And before any of you haters think about commenting with something nasty- It’s my opinion that it’s taken DFoz sixty some odd years to gain the maturity level he needed for a woman like Kat. Love to you both and Mazel
Amy added that if her dad is happy, then she’s happy too. What a great daughter!
Other David’s daughters love Katharine as well. Erin (who is 2 years older than Katharine) even jokingly calls her "mommy."
The lovebirds earlier said they do not want to have a long engagement and plan to get married as soon as possible. We are really happy for them.
