'The Big Bang Theory' Pays Tribute To The Late Stephen Hawking With The Season Finale

Date May 16, 2018

The world lost a rare gem when Stephen Hawking passed on at the age of 76 on March 14. His family never revealed the cause of death but said the cosmologist and theoretical physicist “died peacefully.” Although he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 1962 and was given two years to live, Hawking lived for 50 years more.

Despite losing his voice in 1991, Hawking remained one of the most vocal space scientists due to a special device designed by tech wiz, Walter Woltosz. In addition to being an author, Hawking is a major pop culture reference and is constantly mentioned on television.\

Final tribute on The Big Bang Theory

Stephen Hawking first appeared on The Big Bang Theory in Episode 21 of Season 5, and his voice has been a staple ever since. In honor of the late scientist, the writers and cast added a special scene.

As Sheldon and Amy are finally a happy couple, they receive a wedding gift from the late Stephen Hawking with the sweetest message ever.

The clip was shared on the official show handle on Instagram and has garnered over 140k views already. Excited fans are eager to see what else the show has in store, and if this warm tribute is anything to go by, it is sure to be a blast.

He had a special gift for the people of Cambridge

Hawking’s funeral took place at the Great Mary’s Church in Cambridge and had over 500 guests in attendance. Hawking didn’t leave without sharing goodwill. His family made a donation to FoodCycle that paid for an Easter lunch for homeless and needy people.

Before the funeral, Hawking’s family spoke to FoodCycle and had them invite members of the public to the church for a delicious meal, while the funeral took place. Over 50 people showed up for the Easter lunch.

He may no longer be with us, but his spirit lives on, and he continues to inspire a new generation of scientists.
