As tradition dictates, the design incorporates her Prince William’s own Coat of Arms on one side. The Duchess chose a blue background for her half of the shield, the color representing the Pacific Ocean that borders her home state, California.

According to the Palace, the bars on the shield represent the sun, while the feathers stand for the power of speech and communication. The white songbird represents the Duchess.

Also, the Palace recently released the Duchess’s official monogram. The design clearly borrows some inspiration from the monogram used by Princess Diana. It features an uppercase script “M” beneath a crown.

Also integrated into the crown are two crosses patée (a type of Christian cross), four fleurs-de-lys, and two strawberry leaves. revealed that the crown may be the same one approved in 1917 by a Royal Warrant as suitable for use by children of the heir apparent to the British throne.
