Devoted royal servants

Princess Diana's father, John Spencer, had the Viscount Althorp title and served as an Equarry to Elizabeth II's father, King George VI, and subsequently to the Queen herself.

Before Spencer, two of Diana's grandmothers served as ladies-in-waiting to the Queen Mother, which shows how close their families had been for generations.

Similarly to his ancestors, John Spencer was a dedicated servant to the members of the royal family, which is why they even attended his wedding with Diana's mother, Frances, in 1954.

Viscount Althorp's wedding was surprisingly high-profile and even took place at Westminster Abbey. As The Montreal Gazette reported, the ceremony was attended by 1,700 guests, including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

Destined to become equal

Such long and familiar history between Princess Diana's family and British royalty makes us believe that it was her destiny to someday marry a prince.

In her own words: "A lot of nice things happened to me when I was in nappies! Endlessly explorable, and filled with wonderful memories of so many pranks. I can see myself now seated on the nursery floor, playing with my toys, totally into my own thing."
