Selena Gomez stays positive

Singer and actress, Selena Gomez, has been particularly brave with sharing her story after she accepted her lupus diagnosis.


She told TODAY in an NBC News exclusive that she’d come out of the 5-year ordeal after it affected her kidney without counting it a negative experience.

Toni Braxton is a survivor

Like Gomez, 90s R&B icon, Toni Braxton, has also been honest about managing lupus and staying healthy. In 2016, she was rushed to the hospital after a health scare, but she was discharged days later.

Braxton first discovered that she had the disease in 2008 after a fainting episode in Las Vegas made her aware that she was a sufferer of the life-long autoimmune disease.

Along with Braxton and Gomez, other celebrities who are open about their struggle with lupus include Seal and Nick Cannon.

Studies show that 1 in 2,100 are diagnosed with the condition and early symptoms include fatigue, butterfly shaped rashes on the face, and frequent, sudden fevers. It’s important to pay attention to your body and get the help you need.
