All members of the royal family came out en masse for the yearly Royal Ascot competition, but a few key faces were missing.

Fun without Prince Phillip

At 92, Queen Elizabeth showed up in a bright yellow piece in the same carriage as her children, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Charles, and a host of other family members were present.


From the looked of glee on the Queen's face, it was easy to tell that she was having the time of her life. Interestingly, her husband Prince Philip was not by her side, and she did not seem to mind.

What happened to him?

The absentee prince was spotted enjoying a leisurely horse and carriage ride on the grounds of the Windsor Castle, while the Queen headed out for the opening of the 2018 Royal Ascot.

He is reportedly taking things easy months after undergoing a hip replacement surgery in April. Although, he bravely walked unaided to watch his grandson, Prince Harry, get married in May, he missed out on Trooping the Colour in June.

Meghan Markle to the rescue

Unfortunately, this could be the status quo for a long time. Prince Philip, 97, retired from official duties in 2017, and the Queen may have to wing it on her own from now on.


But, thankfully, she has Meghan Markle. Their recent solo visit to Cheshire proved to be a remarkable success, and experts are saying this could be a match made in heaven that will save the Queen from loneliness. Do you agree?
