There are lots of books and articles about Lady Diana’s life, it seems people know practically everything about her, but there are still some secrets.

Another brother?

However, there was another brother no one likes talking about.  The thing is, he was meant to be the first son in the family of John Spencer, Diana’s father. But unfortunately, the Honorable John Spencer died within 10 hours after his birth on January 12, 1960, according to Wikipedia.

Diana was born after him, and the family seemed to be disappointed it was a girl, according to Diana herself, or as it was put in Diana. Odinokaya printsessa, a book by Dmitrij Medvedev. It’s said she felt down and not valued as she was a girl, while her family wanted an heir and she, a girl, was born.

The girl felt she was a disappointment for her family. She thought they wanted a boy and that another girl made things even more difficult for them. It just meant they had to try once again for a boy.

Diana’s mother couldn’t believe her son died, she wasn’t even allowed to see or hold him when he was born. The baby was taken away immediately because of a lungs disease. He simply couldn’t breathe, and there were no chances for him to survive.

Cruel joke of Prince Charles

Maybe that's why her husband's joke about their son, Harry, hurt her so much. According to Andrew Norton's Diana: Her True Story, Charles was disappointed it wasn’t a girl:

Charles always wanted a girl. Harry was a boy. His first comment was: 'Oh God, it's a boy.' His second: 'And he's even got red hair.'

That must have been pretty hard to hear for a woman who had been giving birth to a baby for 9 hours. Since then, their marriage changed forever, and everything went down a drain.

Of course, there’s a strong doubt the baby’s gender could have changed anything, but it was the way Diana felt back then. She was a great mother, and the death of her brother wasn’t definitely her fault.
