When getting to know your significant other’s family, you are most likely to try to impress their parents. But in case of Meghan Markle, one of the most important people for her to get alongб was her husband’s grandmother, the Queen.

The former actress took a crash course in royal etiquette, learned how to sit pretty, toned down her accent, and even had to throw away bright nail polish. But this is not it!

Before meeting Her Majesty, the American beauty reportedly took tea-drinking lessons to impress Harry’s grandmother. Now, the two seem to get along. Is it because of tea or another shared passion?

As it turns out, Meghan and Elizabeth II share a special connection – they both have a strong affinity with Malta. The Queen spent some of the happiest years of her married life on the Mediterranean isle shortly after her wedding to Prince Philip.

The Duke was based there with the royal navy, and this time was, perhaps, the most carefree for the royals. As one of the monarch’s bridesmaids previously said:

Meghan also shares an emotional connection with Malta. Back in 2015, she traveled there to learn more about her ancestors, her great-great-grandmother Mary Bird, in particular. The woman was born there in the late 18th century before migrating to the United States.

As the former actress revealed:

The trip was mostly about trying to understand where I come from, my identity. There is something so lovely about fitting in a piece of the puzzle.

Love for Malta may be the reason Meghan and Elizabeth II took a train trip together. The two carried out a range of official engagements.
