Dark Page Of The Royal Fairytale: Is It True That Princess Charlene Of Monaco Was A Runaway Bride?

Date July 19, 2018

If you ask us to recall the most beautiful love story of the last decades, we will definitely mention the one of Princess Charlene and Prince Albert of Monaco. Their union can be described as a royal fairytale, though like any other relationships, their path to happiness hasn’t been without difficulties.

Was Princess Charlene a runaway bride?

Soon after the wedding of the South African Olympian, Charlene Wittstock, and the member of the Monaco royal family, Prince Albert II, rumors that Charlene was a reluctant bride spread in the mass media.

Charlene was rumored to escape back home to South Africa just before her wedding to Prince Albert. Her attempt reportedly failed because the palace officials allegedly confiscated her passport and convinced her to make a deal with her future husband.

However, according to The Guardian, Telegraph, and other multiple sources, the palace never confirmed this information. Moreover, representatives of the royal family denied all this speculation about Princess Charlene alleged runaway.

The Prince's Palace firmly denies these allegations.  These rumors have only one purpose - to seriously damage the Sovereign's image and by consequence that of Miss Wittstock.

Royal fairytale

Charlene and Albert first met in 2000, when she was a participant in swimming competition in Monaco. At that time, Albert was well-known for his reputation of a playboy.

There have been a lot of obstacles that could prevent the couple from being together. First, he is 20 years older than she. Besides, Charlene is not a royal. But when two people belong together, nothing can interfere with their love.

Despite all the rumors and speculations in the mass media, Charlene’s not-royal status, and Albert’s rough past, the lovebirds tied the knot and live in a successful marriage for seven years.

Three years ago, the royal couple welcomed two wonderful twins, Jacques and Gabriella. Soon after Charlene gave birth, Albert said in his official announcement:

I think it's, wonderful. I can't speak for Charlene, but she will be able to answer you. We're having a wonderful time.

We are more than happy for Albert and Charlene and wish the couple to never lose that special sparkle between them.
