Rachel McAdams became a mother at 39 years old, which is scientifically quite 'old' for pregnancies and giving birth, considering the fact of difficulties.

However, it didn't prevent the actress from finally having the child. The actress revealed the reason in one of the candid interviews: 

 [People say] your life is not your own anymore. But I had 39 years of me, I was sick of me, I was so happy to put the focus on some other person. I waited a long time [for motherhood]. And I didn’t want to do it before it was the right time.
