In the past, it wouldn’t matter how old the heir to the throne was when they were put into the position of a country’s ruler. The youngest British monarch to start her reign was Mary, Queen of Scots. She became the Queen in 1542, when she was only 6 days old.

The modern monarchy has evolved with time. However, when royal kids hit a certain age, they are still forced to act according to the protocol and follow the rules. Spain’s Princess Leonor knows this from the first hand as she made the first steps as an heir to the throne by making her first ever public speech at 13 years old.
