Rachel Maddow And Susan Mikula Have Been Together For 20 Years. Why Haven't They Tied The Knot Yet?

Date February 8, 2019

There are many celebrity couples that serve as an inspiration for the LGBTQ community – Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka or Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef, to name just a few. Some of such pairs have been together a long time, but they still don’t want to tie the knot.

Why so, when same-sex marriages are now legalized?

Susan Mikula and Rachel Maddow are one of such couples. The television host of famous The Rachel Maddow Show started dating her long-time partner back in 1999.

The two women met when Rachel moved to Western Massachusetts and Susan hired her for some yard work. It took quite a while for them to become lovers, but for Maddow, it was the love at the first site.

Since then, the couple has had no major controversies or problems. Both of them are extremely happy in their relationship, but still, they’re in no hurry to make it official. And the host gladly explained why to The Telegraph:

Gay people not being able to get married for generations meant that we came up with alternative ways of recognizing relationships. And I worry that if everybody has access to the same institutions that we lose the creativity.

So, for the lovebirds, being married is just not important for happiness. The key is to recognize the love of each other and to support one another.

But of course, many same-sex couples are all about marriage life. Take, for example, Ellen DeGeneres and her beloved partner, Portia de Rossi. In 2018, the two celebrated the 10th anniversary of their marriage.
