Rose McGowan Was Indicted On Cocaine Charges: The Actress Claims She Was Framed By Harvey Weinstein

Date June 13, 2018

Rose McGowan was officially accused of cocaine possession and is now facing up to a year in prison. The drugs were found in the actress' wallet at the airport in January 2017.

The 44-year-old actress insists on being framed and denies the accusations. McGowan's lawyer says they're convinced she was targeted by Harvey Weinstein, as he's been proven to hire investigators to seek out women who filed complaints of sexual misconduct against him. According to Rose's attorney:

These charges would have never been brought if it weren’t for her activism as a voice for women everywhere.  I assure you, this selective prosecution will be met with a strong defense.

McGowan was very vocal about being raped by Weinstein in 1997. She became active as a female rights spokeswoman shortly after all dirt against the producer started to come out. Rose believes her role in bringing him to justice is what caused her framing.

In January 2017, McGowan was on her way to a women's march, when she reported a missing wallet. About five hours later, the wallet was found in the airport with drugs inside. Rose's lawyer claims there is no evidence of McGowan being in contact with cocaine or her wallet during that time.

As previously reported, Harvey Weinstein denied accusations of rape and was released on a 1 million dollars bail, but he was forced to wear a GPS tracking device.

Public is split

People reacted to McGowan's story differently: some support her claim and demand justice, while some see it as an attention grab.
