Charlize Theron Gets Candid On Struggles Of Raising Her Black Children In Today's Political Climate

Date June 7, 2018 14:14

Charlize Theron has two beautiful children, Jackson and August, whom she adopted. And she absolutely doesn’t regret having any biological kids.

As the actress is from South Africa, she is highly aware that there are thousands of children all over the world waiting in orphanages for parents. So, for her, adoption has always been the primary option. As the 42-yar-old says:

I never saw a difference in raising an adopted child versus my own biological child. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on something.

Surely, raising adopted kids might be a challenge. And when they are children of color, it may pose more difficulties. A few weeks ago, the actress opened up about her thoughts on Black Lives Matter and current climate in the United States. It turns out that Charlize doesn’t think her children are completely safe.

As the actress said on ‘The View’ while discussing her parenting approach:

I think like every parent in the world, I want my kids to be safe. And I worry about their safety everyday. I just want to know that my kids can go to school, and I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Earlier, the star revealed that there were moments when she thought she would have to leave the United States if the racial climate didn’t improve soon. Besides, there are places in the country that she doesn’t travel with her kids, and there are places she doesn’t take jobs.

I don’t even know how to talk about the last year under our new administration. But racism is much more alive and well than people thought. We can’t deny it anymore.

Charlize’s goal is to build confidence for Jackson and August showing them who they are and what they should be proud of.

The project connects different organizations to capacity building and funding, allowing them to reach more young people and help them stay safe.
