Date February 3, 2020

An old video is leading to major backlash for the Duchess of Sussex. While Meghan Markle could laugh about this moment, many people didn't exactly find it funny.

A fraud as a royal

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex first announced they were taking a step back from being senior royals a few weeks ago, royal followers had plenty to say. Some people cheered the couple on and understood their desire for privacy while others slammed their decision.

One person who experienced major criticisms over this move was Meghan herself. Comments that came in reaction to this announcement had many blaming her for fooling Prince Harry, and by extension, the royal family as a whole.

She knew what she was marrying into and she had a plan the whole time. She is going to use the marriage to her advantage and then leave destruction in her wake when she's done. I feel bad for Archie and the rift she’s caused between the brothers. It may never be healed.

And @ john_buffy_scarlett commented:

Very selfish to take him away from his family but guess he has to learn the hard way she’s Just thinking’s of herself and doesn’t care about him an actor just playing her part.

It appeared a lot of people concluded that the Duchess had always had an ulterior motive. And some people believe one recently resurfaced video served as proof of this.

Laughing about being "such a fraud."

In 2015, Meghan Markle, who was an actress on Suits at the time, joined her fellow cast members for a Q&A session during the ATX Festival.

The former actress confessed that, in 2004, she lied that she was in a union in order to get an audition for a show.

And I got there and they’re like: “so you’re union.' And I’m like: Of course I’m union. I mean yeah absolutely. And I wasn’t.To this day, those casting directors will never hire me.

Laughing, Meghan later added, "I was such a fraud."

Even though the actress shared this story in good fun, not everyone saw the humorous side when the video was discussed via social media recently.

In fact, many people connected her fraudulent behavior to her role as a member of the royal family.

Several social media users were pretty upset by Meghan's words and drew conclusions that this was proof she didn't have a problem lying to get what she wanted.

Focusing on the positives

Despite all the hate the Sussexes have been getting lately, they are clearly focused on doing positive things.

  • Not long after their announcement, Meghan was spotted in Vancouver where she reportedly visited a Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre to discuss issues relating to women.
  • It was also revealed, via the Sussex social media page, that Meghan visited Mayhew, an organization working to improve the welfare of animals.
  • Very recently, Harry and Meghan also gave a shoutout to Global Positive News, a platform that focuses only on kindness and uplifting stories.

It must be tough for Harry and Meghan to face constant criticisms for their decisions. Evidently, it doesn't matter if it's past or present, come people are only too eager to point accusing fingers. We have to give the couple props for focusing on the good amid all of this. Their message of love and positivity has always remained the same. And the fact is that their fans and supporters will keep having their back through it all.
