Kelly Ripa Says Son Michael Is Experiencing "Extreme Poverty" And The Internet Isn't Having It: "Try Lying To Someone Else"

Date October 23, 2019 18:17

Kelly Ripa isn't afraid to say what she wants and that's probably one of the reasons she's famous as a TV personality. But a recent comment left people very angry at her.

Kelly and Mark Consuelos' eldest son Michael is 22 years old and is already making strides in the TV industry.

In 2018, it was announced that Michael would get to play a teen version of his dad's character Hiram Lodge in an episode of CW's Riverdale and it seemed like such a fitting idea.

Michael has also had roles in such TV series as Go, Diego! Go! and Duck Dodgers.

Dealing with chronic poverty

In consideration of these steps in Michael's acting career, fans were quite surprised when his mother claimed he's living in poverty.

While on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently, Kelly Ripa poked fun at her two eldest kids, Michael and daughter Lola. She mentioned that her son is now learning to live on his own and things can be challenging.

I think he loves the freedom. He hates paying his own rent and he's chronically poor. I don't think he ever really experienced extreme poverty like now.

The mom, apparently about tough love when it comes to parenting, said that Michael is now struggling with money so bad that he has already called his parents thrice to ask if his grandparents have sent his usual Halloween money. Evidently, he never used to bother about the yearly present.

Now that he's living on his own, he's called three times, 'Halloween envelope arrived?' Just so he can have electricity. He's experiencing being an adult.

Fans react to her words

Internet users took offense at the way Kelly Ripa talked about her son.

@WutTheDeuce implied that Kelly doesn't even know what it means to be "chronically poor."

Chronically poor? Does she even know what those words mean?

@MigoSTX said something similar:

Trust me her kids know nothing about being poor!! She's a good mother and her husband as well have provided a great life for their children.. So try lying to someone else Kelly.

@Mauricio Villamil Betancourt tried sarcasm:

Oh wow!! Imagine that. Her son is chronically poor. I feel so sorry for him. I can only imagine how hard life is for the son of a celebrity. Now, these rich, self-absorved, entitled, priviledged people think they understand poverty? Imagine that!

@Vlada Natasha shared a similar sentiment:

Chronically poor? extreme poverty? Pray for her son y'all. Must be really hard for a Consuelos boy to establish a career starting from literal scratch in New York!

The views of these internet users are quite understandable. In their opinion, Kelly is probably exaggerating her son's situation. However, it's probably best to assume the TV host is only kidding and her comments should not be taken quite so seriously. Do you agree?
