Joaquin Phoenix Credits Late Brother River For Talent And Success In Movie Industry During Heartfelt Speech For Tribute Actor Award

River Phoenix's talented life was cut short in 1993. According to reports, the young star had overdosed and was seen convulsing outside a Hollywood nightclub he was supposed to perform at.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

River died at the young age of 23, but his legacy remained in the hearts of those who loved him, especially his younger brother Joaquin, who was 19 at the time.

Joaquin pays tribute to River

At the Toronto Film Festival, Joaquin was given the Tribute Actor Award for his numerous contributions to the movie industry.

During his acceptance speech, the 'Joker' star paid tribute to his late brother who made it possible for him to become such a phenomenal actor.

He recounted when River came home from work when he was 15 and gave a VHS copy of the movie 'Raging Bull' and made him watch it.

The next day, River made him watch the movie again and charged him to become an actor.

"He didn't ask me. He just told me. And I am indebted to him for that because acting has given me such an incredible life, Joaquin said."

He also praised his mother for being a constant source of inspiration to him.
