The beloved actress stole our hearts with her portrayal of Rhoda Morgenstern on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show.’

As revealed in a tweet by her daughter, Valerie passed away at the age of 80 “after years of fighting cancer.”

Her final interview

Even though Valerie battled a host health issues during her lifetime, she admitted during her last interview with Entertainment Tonight that she lived a “great, long” life.

She said:

"You wake up and go, 'Oh! I'm here, another day to live!’. I've had a great long [life], and great stuff's happened to me and my darling husband."

She explained that soon after her lung cancer was cured surgically, they informed her about her brain cancer diagnosis.

Nevertheless, the actress kept humor alive, saying:

"There are 200 different kinds of cancer, so I'm just going my way."
