Michelle Velez from Las Vegas revealed she had a rare form of cancer caused by pregnancy complications. Speaking to TODAY Health, she said:

When I was diagnosed with a molar pregnancy, I was completely overwhelmed. I'd never heard of it before. It's extremely complicated, so I'll try my best to make it easy to understand. What I had was called a molar pregnancy.

Instead of miscarrying, Velez's pregnancy continued to grow.

In some very rare cases, that tissue can turn into cancer and spread to other organs in the body. That is what happened to me. No good reason … just unfortunate dumb luck.

The mother-of-two underwent chemotherapy to treat her rare type of cancer, which spread into the lungs, spleen, and liver.

I know everyone is worried about me and scared. But I feel confident that I am going to be OK.

The majority of molar pregnancies are mostly not cancerous. They are rare, but they are the most common type of gestational trophoblastic tumor, which happened to Michelle Velez.
