You cannot maintain an overall healthy lifestyle without considering what you eat and how you take care of your body.

Comedian Jay Leno once revealed to Nevada Magazine in 2007 that he neither drank nor smoked. It was his own way of keeping himself healthy and many years later, he gave more insight into his methods.

Health problems

The comedy legend spoke to USA Today in March 2019 about some of his health problems and how he regularly monitored his heart health.

The former Tonight Show host said that it was very important for him to manage his high cholesterol. He iterated that people should be more aware of these types of health problem and encouraged them to seek advice from qualified medical practitioners.

Leno said he was inspired to become a health advocate because of the late Rodney Dangerfield. He recalled once noticing that something seemed off with Dangerfield while he was on The Tonight Show in the early 2000s.

I said to my producer, Debbie, 'let's call paramedics. Rodney looks a little weird.

Leno turned out to be right as Dangerfield was later revealed to be suffering a stroke. Presumably based on his career as a comedian, he said:

Go to a doctor, and find out what (medicine) you should take and maybe augment that with laughter. Laughter (alone) is a terrible medicine, it doesn't do anything. It's amusing and fun, but as a medicine it just sucks.

Reflecting on his own health

In an interview with People, Leno shed more light on the incident with Dangerfield. The legendary comedian did recover from the stroke but it gave Leno a pause.

The TV host said he started to reflect on his own health from that night and he became even more determined to stay on track after he was diagnosed with high cholesterol.

It's easy to assume that those who make people laugh for a living must have perfect lives themselves. But Leno's revelation about his own life is a reminder that no matter what, always take time to monitor your health.
