Cyndi and David met on the set of the film Off and Running and has been an item ever since. However, Lauper’s dark past still haunts her.

Cyndi Lauper was close to suicide at one point

Cyndi Lauper was a pop icon in the 80s and sold over 50 million records. But in the recent autobiography, the singer revealed she had a violent and dark past.

In 1989, her fame started to die out but it wasn’t the worst thing that happened. Cyndi Lauper’s boyfriend, David Wolf, who was also her manager, left her. And that’s when the singer hit the rock bottom.

She commented:

It was such a dark time for me. When I was living in that hotel I was two steps off of that balcony. I had to spend most of my time alone. I was grieving. I thought the sadness would never go away.

But imagining what people would think of her if she takes her own life was the reason why she didn’t do it. She explained:

The only thing that always prevented me from suicide is that I never wanted a headline to read, ‘Girl who wanted to have fun just didn’t’.

She then started going to therapy and fully recovered after meeting her current husband.
