Freddie Mercury Asked His Boyfriend To Leave Him Over AIDS But Jim Hutton Cared Of Him 'Till The Last Breath

Freddie Mercury and hairdresser Jim Hutton were sid-by-side for seven years until the singer’s last breath. Aside from his flamboyant showman-like behavior on stage, he was a very quiet and fun-loving man.

By 1985, Mercury began his long-term relationship with Jim Hutton after meeting each other in a pub accidentally. But nothing is called like that when it’s all about fate. The couple was together amid all struggles and lived a wonderful life.

When the Queen frontman found out about his terrifying diagnosis, he readily asked his partner, Jim Hutton, to leave him right away. In an interview, the Irish-born hairdresser stated:

When he was diagnosed, he said to me, ‘I would understand if you wanted to pack your bags and leave.’ I told him, ‘Don’t be stupid. I’m not going anywhere. I’m here for the long haul.’

In fact, Hutton kept his word. Freddie Mercury died with a wedding band on his finger, alongside Jim. He was the last person the Queen legend saw before leaving the world due to AIDS. How romantic is it?

Jim Hutton and Freddie Mercury kept their long-term relationship under the rug.

  • In the book Mercury: An Intimate Biography of Freddie Mercury, author Lesley-Ann Jones wrote Jim and Freddie were cagey about themselves due to homosexuality issues in the singer’s family. His parents were adherents of Zoroastrianism and they wouldn’t get their son’s inclinations.
  • In the book Somebody to Love: The Life, Death and Legacy of Freddie Mercury, authors Matt Richards and Mark Langthorne notified that Jim gave Freddie a wedding gold ring, which he had worn only around the house and not in the public eye to attract unwanted attention.

Jim Hutton passed away in 2010, 19 years after Freddie Mercury. He reportedly died of lung cancer, aged 60 — just three days before his 61st birthday. In fact, he was also diagnosed with AIDS and dealt with it until his death.

Why Freddie Mercury never married the love of his life, Mary Austin? Check out the answer!

Love knows no age and orientation. Freddie Mercury was the happiest with Jim Hutton, who took care of him until his last moment in this world. Although their path wasn’t easy at the time, the two loved each other from the bottom of their hearts. Hopefully, they will reunite up there.
