Caitlyn Jenner Gets Real About The Challenges Of Coming Out As A Trans Woman And Dealing With People's Negative Reactions

Date November 7, 2019

Caitlyn Jenner's transitioning story is one that has continued to fascinate many people. Before 2015, she starred on the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians as Bruce Jenner. But between 2015 to 2016, she came out as a trans woman and shared her journey on the reality TV series I Am Cait.

The show focused on her transition from male to female and a lot has changed since then. For instance, she underwent gender reassignment surgery in January 2017.

Caitlyn has been very vocal about her story and now she's sharing even more.

Caitlyn Jenner's transitioning experience

The 70-year-old reality star recently spoke on BBC's Don't Tell Me the Score podcast. where she said that coming out as a trans woman was much more difficult than competing in the Olympic games as Bruce.

Comparing both situations, she said:

I trained 12 years for the games. I trained 65 years to transition in 2015. It was harder to do, it was less accepted.

She further added that she also had to cope with negativity when she eventually had to come out which was something she didn't face as an Olympian.

Everyone loved the games, a lot of people when they see you transition hate your guts. Look at the quotes on Instagram. By far that was a lot more difficult.

Caitlyn said that struggling with gender dysphoria pushed him to train even harder at sports but in the end, she felt it wasn't the life she wanted to be living.

A lot of the training was really running away from the issues I had.

Letting go of Bruce

In an interview with The Guardian, Caitlyn explained that it wasn't easy to let go of who she was as Bruce.

It was hard giving old Bruce up, in a lot of ways. He still lives inside me. I still do a lot of the things old Bruce used to do.

She gave examples of flying airplanes and racing cars. But in general, she said she felt like she could enjoy the best of both worlds.

Making such a drastic change in life must have taken a lot of thought and reasoning. But whether or not people agree, there's no doubt that Caitlyn feels much better as who she is today and embraces her choices. Her willingness to share these experiences is worthy of appreciation.
