"That Piece Of Your Heart Is Just Gone Forever": Bruno Mars Can't Cope With The Loss Of His Mom Due To Brain Aneurysm

Date November 19, 2019

Bruno Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, has become extremely popular, having gained global recognition and glory. However, his personal life hasn't been favorable, as his mother tragically passed away due to brain aneurysm in 2013.

Bruno Mar's nationality is quite impressive, as he is mixed-race. His father is of half Puerto Rican and half Ashkenazi Jewish descent (from Ukraine and Hungary). His mother emigrated from the Philippines to Hawaii in childhood years and was of Filipino and Spanish ancestry.

A Mars representative told CNN that his beloved mum, Bernadette Hernandez, died at the age of 55 in Honolulu, Hawaii. How did Bruno take such news?

Bruno Mars' mother

The Grammy-winning singer opened up about the loss of his mum, Bernadette Hernandez, due to brain aneurysm in a Latina interview. Bruno Mars' life hasn't been the same since his mom's demise, having altered his perspective.

My life has changed. She's more than my music. If I could trade music to have her back, I would. I always hear her say, 'Keep going and keep doing it.'

The loss of Bernadette, who performed with her son when he was a child, taught Bruno to value family more than anything. Talking to Latina, the singer-songwriter added:

You just gotta know that she's with me everywhere I go. It's something that you can't imagine – the pain and the things that you keep going back to: 'I wish I would've done this or said this.' You just have to see life differently. It shows you the real importance of life. Nothing else matters in this world, but family and your loved ones.

Millenium Post featured one of the singer's interviews, showcasing his pain:

To this day, I don't know how to handle it. That piece of your heart is just gone forever. I don't even know how to talk about it with you. It's a nightmare. It's literally a nightmare. The poor guy had to start a would tour three weeks later, and he didn't know what to do.

Grief and pain were severe, but he knew that his mom wouldn't want her kid to stop. He told Rolling Stone in 2016:

I didn't know what to do. There's nothing you can do. You just ball up and bawl your eyes out every day. I'd pray and ask, 'What do you want me to do?' And I felt like what she wanted me to do was keep going. She wouldn't want me to stop.

The 24K Magic singer also credited his late mother for teaching him how to love and treat a woman appropriately.

Who is Bruno Mars' father?

Bruno Mars' parents instilled a sense of music in him at a very young age. His dad, Peter Hernandez, met his wife Bernadette while performing together in a show. Bruno Mars' mother was a hula dancer, whereas his dad was a percussionist. He revealed:

My father's a musician and my mother's a singer. My dad's originally from Brooklyn, and he was a Latin percussionist, so I've always had instruments around the house.

Bruno Mars sadly lost his mother, and it is unknown what kind of relationship he has with his father, but it's evident how well-brought-up and decent he is. Hopefully, he will be able to instill the same modesty, wisdom, and love to his own children one day.
