"There Are Very Few Bits Of Me Left": Elton John Had To Learn To Walk Again After Prostate Cancer And A Severe Infection

Elton John's children with partner David Furnish were born via the same surrogate in 2010 and 2013, respectively. The happiest couple has two sons, Zachary Jackson Levon and Elijah Joseph Daniel.

The British singer told The Sun he likes being a father, and his boys are "really boyish" who like to flirt with girls.

It's fantastic being a dad. Ten years ago, if you'd have told me that, I'd have said you're crazy.

Elton John's cancer

Sir Elton John claimed there is hardly anything left of him after prostate cancer surgery and health scares. In 2017, the father-of-two had a severe infection following the surgery to treat the disease, forcing him to learn how to walk once again.

I literally had to learn to walk again. I was extremely sick. Luckily I survived it. Now I am fine. But there are very few bits of me left!

He went on:

Here is no hair, a pacemaker, there is no tonsils, there is no prostate, there is no appendix. I have had kidney stones. I am like the Bionic Woman. I am like Lyndsay Wagner or Steve Austin. Whichever one you want to call it.

The biggest fear John had at the time was he would never see his kids once again. Talking to Graham Norton in the BBC One program Elton John: Uncensored, the 72-year-old explained:

Don't let me die, I want to see my children grow up.

Elton John's health problems began shortly after the operation, leading him to have a rare complication. The British celebrity was "24 hours from death" after contracting an infection following treatment for prostate cancer.

He spent 11 days in a London hospital, "wondering if I was going to die."

In the hospital, alone at the dead of night, I'd prayed: please don't let me die, please let me see my kids again, please give me a little longer.

It encouraged the singer's decision to retire from touring so he could spend more time with his husband, David Furnish, and their sons, Zachary and Elijah.

Oddly enough, Elton John didn't want to have kids in the past, but his two sons are now the entire world for him. After a series of heartbreaks, the I'm Still Standing hitmaker found real happiness in his family.

His former bass player, Kenny Passarelli, stated:

Elton having the children changed his life. It resolves everything. It's the ultimate gift. It doesn't get any better than that.

Indeed, Elton John's children are everything for him right now. Especially after many moments of depression and sadness, the singer finally found himself happy next to his husband David and their two sons.
