82-Year-Old 'Star Wars' Star Billy Dee Williams Comes Out As Gender Fluid, Saying He Identifies As Feminine And Masculine

Billy Dee Williams' role in Star Wars is arguably one of the most iconic characters he has ever played. The 82-year-old actor was best known as Lando Calrissian in the film franchise after he first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

This wasn't his only achievement, though. Williams has also starred in such films as Lady Sings the Blues, Mahogany, Brian's Song, Batman and many more.

Despite his many roles in a wide range of movies, many of his fans still adore his portrayal as Lando and how he brought that special suave and sophistication to the character.

Billy Dee Williams on being gender-fluid

Donald Glover, who famously took over the role of Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, once said that the character was pansexual and Billy had something to say about that recently.

Billy Dee Williams, in a 2019 interview with Esquire, revealed that he was in touch with both his masculine and feminine sides, his words implying that's he's gender-fluid.

He stated that he uses both "himself" and "herself" during self-description, then added:

I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I'm a very soft person. I'm not afraid to show that side of myself.

The interviewer then told him about Donald words that Lando was pansexual, to which Billy replied:

Really? That kid is brilliant.

What it means to be gender-fluid

According to GLAAD, identifying as non-binary or gender-fluid simply means that the person doesn't consider themselves to be exclusively a man or a woman.

They further explained that gender fluidity doesn't have anything to do with sexual orientation.

People have had a lot to say following Billy Dee William's revelations about his gender identity. But regardless of the reactions, the famous actor has simply told his truth and was brave enough to express something so controversial. Kudos to him.
