'Sister Act' Reunion: Whoopi Goldberg Joins The Rest Of The Iconic Cast For Deeply Nostalgic Performance

Date December 9, 2019 12:41

The 'Sister Act' cast absolutely blew viewers away in the 90s when the iconic comedy was released.

Released in 1992, the musical comedy starred such incredible talents as Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, and Wendy Makkena. Whoopi's role as Deloris Cartier was arguably one of her best as an actress and many years later, she's still the perfect choice to reprise the character.

In October 2019, BBC reported that Whoopi was getting ready to participate in a newly-adapted version of the hit musical version of Sister Act. In addition to performing in the musical billed to show at London's Eventim Apollo, Whoopi would also act as producer.

While this was welcome news, it wasn't the only time Whoopi wore that famous habit since the 1992 film.

Whoopi Goldberg joins Sister Act reunion

The actress and a few of the other Sister Act cast members thrilled the audience of The View and those watching from home in 2017.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the classic comedy, the actresses reunited for a special performance of one of Sister Act songs titled I Will Follow Him.

The performance began with Whoopi's co-stars Wendy Makkena, Sherry Izzard, Beth Forlwer, Andrea Robinson and a few others taking their place on the stage as they prepared to perform the song. Then the Oscar winner stepped out and began to lead the group.

Actress Rorenti Perenty passed away in 1996 and stepping in for her character Sister Alma was the movie's producer Mark Shaiman. Watch the beautiful performance.

Fans' reaction

People were quite touched by this group's rendition. Many people felt nostalgic as the song, the performers and everything else reminded them of when they fell in love with the incredible characters.

I'm just crying. They don't make good wholesome movies like this anymore. Music heals the soul. I love this movie.

@Chuks Ann:

I love this woman......haven't and won't forget this movie.....Sister's Act grew up watching it over and over again.

So much nostalgia going thru me right now. Dunno what to think, how to think, which thought should come first.. I am just glad I witnessed such a remarkable time in history!!

And this one;

As they say, real classics will never be forgotten. And even though Whoopi's career has evolved to a point where she's now an influential TV personality, people still can't forget her days on Sister Act nearly three decades ago and she still gets accolades for it.
