The cause of death of Saoirse Kennedy Hill has been revealed. According to ET, the 22-year-old died of an accidental overdose.

Gone too soon

Back in August, late Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s granddaughter, Saoirse passed away at the young of 22. The young lady was found unresponsive at the family’s home in Massachusetts.

The news of her sudden demise was confirmed in a statement from the Kennedy family:

Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse. Her life was filled with hope, promise and love. She cared deeply about friends and family, especially her mother Courtney, her father Paul, her stepmother Stephanie, and her grandmother Ethel.

On Friday, Michael O'Keefe, the Cape and Islands District Attorney announced that Saoirse’s cause of death was "acute methadone and ethanol toxicity in combination with other prescription medications."

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled it as an "accidental" overdose. Three years before her tragic demise, Saoirse penned an emotional essay about her struggle with depression.

She opened up about her long battle with mental health and how she had attempted to take her own life before seeking help.

Saoirse is fondly remembered by her family as a kind-hearted and generous person.
