Gone Too Young: 38-Year-Old Former Detroit Lions Receiver Charles Rogers Is Dead

Itโ€™s sad when young stars tragically pass away. Former Detroit Lions receiver and Michigan State University star, Charles Rogers has died at the age of 38.

Rogers was a player who was highly sought after by football recruits. Born in Saginaw, Charles played at Saginaw High School, before his college days at Michigan State.

As an impressive athlete, he was an all-time leader in touchdown catches and ranked third in the schoolโ€™s history with 2,281 receiving yards.

Back in 2002, he won the Biletnikoff Award. Rogers was picked by the Detroit Lions as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft. He sadly, never realized his full potential as he battled injuries and addiction.

The world has lost yet another football star, Charles Rogers. The NFL star passed away overnight on Monday according to his former high school coach, Don Durrett.

However, at this time the cause of Charlesโ€™s hasnโ€™t been made public. His former team Lions expressed their condolences in a statement saying:

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Charles Rogers. From Saginaw to East Lansing, to Detroit, Charles' connection to the state of Michigan and its football community was felt by many during the course of his life.

Chris Baker, a former college teammate took to Twitter to mourn Rogers. He also asked that the familyโ€™s privacy be respected as this difficult time.

Rogers, who is survived by eight children and his mother battled an addiction while he played for the Lions.
