It's been many years since the Disney series Hannah Montana wrapped in 2011. Main star Miley Cyrus has undergone a lot of changes since then. She has explored a music career and has even gotten married.

The comedy show is based on Miley Stewart, (played by Miley Cyrus) a teenage pop star who keeps her true identity a secret from her close friends by wearing a disguise on stage.

Miley was 14 years old when she began to star on this show in 2006. It was a huge hit and quickly thrust the singer into the limelight.

On the outside, it seemed young Miley had it all when she was on the show. She was successful, famous and well on her way to a massive career, but things were not always rosy.

Since leaving the show, Miley has talked extensively about her time there. In general, she has said that she's proud of all that she accomplished at the time and she has no regrets, but there were difficulties.

While speaking on CBS This Morning, Miley opened up about the fact that she struggled to balance her real life with that of her fictional character when she was on the show.

I think it got harder when I started touring as both — I toured as Hannah Montana and as myself. I think that's probably what's a little bit wrong with me now! I mark that up to doing some extreme damage in my psyche as an adult person.

She, however, added that these challenges didn't mean she considered changing careers as she liked "being in the Disney universe."

In an interview with Teen Vogue, the Black Mirror star revealed that much of her respect and recognition came from what she has been able to do outside Hannah Montana but she admitted that she's still trying to figure out who she is.

I guess that’s what I’m still doing — trying on identities and seeing what fits.

It isn't all bad, though, as Miley mentioned that she loved what an impact her role has had on people.

It’s pretty cool when you hear Cardi B was listening to Hannah Montana when she was in high school.

A lot has changed

There's no doubt that Miley Cyrus is now a very different person from her Hannah Montana character. She has undergone a major hair and fashion style change and even gotten into a bit of scandal too.

Just like any other growing lady, Miley seems to be exploring the options available to her to figure out what works. Sure, the days of her being the sweet and preppy Miley Stewart are over, today, she's still making an impact in a different way. And her fans continue to stand by her through and through.
