Stefania was sitting in a waiting room at a doctor’s office, when she heard two women discussing a 42-year-old breastfeeding mom. The women were going on and on about how the mom was too old to breastfeed, how her milk was bad, how her baby would be better off on formula, etc... At that point, Stefania was furious but said nothing.

A few minutes later, Stefania’s 3-year-old daughter reached for her breast to feed. Obviously, she gave her daughter what she wanted. The women noticed her, and Stefania delivered one line that totally knocked them out! She said:

By the way, I am 44 years old, 45 next June and my milk is perfect!

Their jaws dropped.

Stefania decided to share the story with her readers, and their response was overwhelming! In the comment section, people praised Stefania and some shared their own stories. Here are some of the comments:

Stefania has been sharing her motherhood experiences on this blog for a few years now. She has a significant following of more than 24,000 subscribers. Her goal is to empower other moms; here’s how she described her blog:

A place for ALL MAMAS to inspire and get inspired, laugh, cry and talk about "stuff". Also a pro-breastfeeding page: anywhere, anytime, for however long.

How does breastfeeding benefit moms?

We have long known that breastfeeding is good for children. Breastfed babies have a lower risk of developing certain long-term health problems in the future; these include allergies, celiac disease, obesity, and diabetes. Even the World Health Organization supports breastfeeding, so who are we to deny that it’s beneficial?

Here’s what the WHO website says:

Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond.

This formulation does not specify at what age of the mom and the baby breastfeeding has to stop. It means it’s up to moms to decide for themselves when to stop.

What’s more, breastfeeding seems to reduce the risk of high blood pressure in moms, according to a study published in the American Journal of Hypertension. The study found that the longer a mom breastfeeds and the more children she breastfeeds, the lower her risk of high blood pressure gets.

What does it tell us? Given all its benefits, breastfeeding is nothing to be ashamed of and should be encouraged!
